AND RESULTS
Bridgnorth Walk, 28th May 2007 The Club entered a team for the annual Bridgnorth Walk, a 22 mile walk from the town centre to the top of the Brown Clee and back. Mike Payne put in an outstanding performance (3h 36min), coming a close second to Andy Rawlings, the winner for the 11th time. Reuben Mortimore followed in third place (3h 45min),living up to the Rowing Club's well deserved reputation of producing top results. Congrats to everyone who took part in this gruelling event in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Click here to go to the Bridgnorth Walk web site. Monmouth Regatta, 26th-27th May 2007 The Bank Holiday weekend saw Bridgnorth Rowing Club in action at Monmouth Sprint & Regatta. On Saturday the OS4+, consisting of Daz, Dale, Will and Si, coxed by Charlotte, beat Bristol Ariel by half a length. The N2x of Dale and Si beat Monmouth by 1 length. On Sunday Charlotte Jukes won the WJ14 1x easily in a final against Haberdasher's MSG RC. Other crews representing Bridgnorth RC were the N4+ consisting of Matt, Mike, Rob and Andy, the OS4 2x of Daz and Will and Pat Brown in the J16 1x. Pengwern Regatta, 12th-13th May 2007 Bridgnorth women's crews were victorious following a very wet weekend of racing at Shrewsbury. The new double combination of Charlotte and Fiona won the WS4 2x sprint by half a length in the final against Burton Leander. Charlotte also claimed victory by half a length in her single in the WJ14A 1x final against Leicester Rowing Club. Well done to everyone who participated in the event. Spotted by a non-rower: the Bridgnorth 'caravan of love' on its way to the regatta on Friday! HORR, 31st March 2007 Another truly eventful trip to London for the HORR. First off, the journey down is never dull for Bridgnorth Rowing Club. After the traditional detour down the M5(!) the towing vehicle gave up the ghost and had to be taken home courtesy of a reputable rescue service. Luckily Rob was on hand to get the trailer to the big smoke in time for boating. It was a little breezy, but off they went...and the rest is history. Both crews got up the the start and watched the first division set off down the course. Soon boats were sinking left, right and centre and the race was cancelled. Our lads got back safely, although soaked through and very cold. Thanks to the coxes, Chris and Charlotte, for putting up with the extreme conditions and getting the crews home in one piece. North of England Head, 24th March 2007 The S2 8+ came 10th overall in this, the trial run before the HORR 2007. A strong performance for the men's squad, in a time of 17:13:8, with only Kings School Chester and Agecroft faster in their category. Sponsored Row, 10th February 2007 Rowing Club members raised more than £2,300 for charity during a 180-mile sponsored row. The event was held at Wetherspoon’s Jewel of the Severn pub in High Street, and we completed a distance equivalent to that from the mouth of the River Severn to Bridgnorth. The money will be split between the neo-natal unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the children’s cancer and leukaemia care charity, CLIC Sargent. English Indoor Rowing Championships, 28th January 2007 Two of the Junior Squad represented the Club at the Velodrome in Manchester, with impressive results. Pat Brown put in an outstanding performance for someone who has only been involved in the sport for 18 months. He pulled 2km in 07min 11s and came 3rd place in the MJ16 category. Charlotte Jukes also shone, pulling 1006m in 4 mins and coming 4th in the WJ14 category. Click here for a link to the Indoor Rowing Champs web site to see full race results and replays. Stourport Small Boats Head, 12th November 2006 After a shaky start to the day, including an unscheduled dip for one of our junior scullers, Bridgnorth performed well in the first race of the 2006/07 Head season. The water conditions couldn’t have been better and the event was enjoyed by all. Dave Drinkwater and Reuben Mortimore won the S2 2x event with a time of 13:11. The VC 4+ consisting of Rich Holt, Paul Wallis, Dave Drinkwater and Tim Grimsdale, coxed by Janet Holland, were a close second to a good Hereford crew with a time of 13:04. Mike Payne came second in S1 1x with a time of 14:10. Strong performances were also put in by the S2 4+ of Dale Bunning, Daz Breakwell, Simon Kett and Will Grant, coxed by Janet Holland, Reuben Mortimore in the S3 1x (time only), Paul Wallis in VC 1x and Pat Brown in J16 1x. Longmynd Hike, 7th-8th October 2006 Two members of Bridgnorth Rowing Club completed the 50 mile Longmynd Hike for the second year running. The hike follows a set figure-of-eight route over the rugged countryside of South Shropshire and the Welsh Marches, with about 8,000 feet of climbing covering eight summits. Dave Drinkwater outdid himself by coming =14th , with a time of 10 hours 43mins, and Reuben Mortimore completed the walk with his brother, Derek, in a time of 14 hours 28 mins, =96th place. Well done lads. Click here for a link to the Long Mynd Hike web site Worcester Sprint Regatta 9th September 2006 The Junior squad represented Bridgnorth at Worcester regatta and Charlotte crowned her 2006 racing season with her first 'senior' pot in WS4 1x. Ross Regatta 28th August 2006 The last regatta of the year for the senior squad and Bridgnorth entered a Senior 2 8+ and a Senior 2 4+. The 8 had to row up a category in senior 1 and narrowly missed out to Hereford in the semi-final. The coxed 4 had a straight final against an experienced Stourport crew and after an aggressive, somewhat messy row they won by a canvas. This was their first race at Senior 2 and a fitting end to a great season for this crew. Well done everyone! Stourport Regatta 12-13th August 2006 Bridgnorth Rowing Club entered the annual Stourport regatta with members of both the junior and senior squads racing over 1100 metres on Saturday and 500 metres on Sunday. Winners on Saturday from the senior squad were the men’s senior three coxed four, consisting of Will Grant, Simon Kett, Daryl Breakwell, Dale Bunning and coxed by Janet Holland, who beat crews from Bewdley and Llandaff to win the final of their event. From the junior squad, Charlotte Jukes continued her winning streak by winning the junior 14 single sculling event. On Sunday, the senior three coxed four continued their success, beating crews from Northwich and Monmouth to win the final. The points gained by this win will push the crew up into the next category so they will race senior two at their next event. This crew have now moved up two categories in one season, which is a fantastic achievement. Two members of the four (Daryl Breakwell and Dale Bunning) also won in the junior 18 double sculling event by beating a crew from Monmouth in a dramatically close race. From the junior squad, Charlotte Jukes also won the junior 14 single sculls event. Well done to everyone for a very successful weekend! Bewdley Regatta July 2006 Bridgnorth sent a large entry to Bewdley Rowing Club's weekend Regatta. The club entered both its men’s eight and men’s four, two men’s double sculls and a number of singles all racing on the River Severn on the 850 metre course on Saturday and the 600 metre course on Sunday. On the junior side, a men’s double scull, two men’s, and one women’s single scull represented Bridgnorth. Notable results were the men’s senior 2 eight, which reached both finals on Saturday and Sunday and the men’s senior 3 coxed four, which also reached its final on the Sunday. Winners of their events were David Drinkwater and Reuben Mortimore who in the men’s senior two double scull reached their final on the Saturday and then won the event on the Sunday by beating a crew from Ross on Wye rowing club. However, the clubs major success was Charlotte Jukes who progressed through all her first rounds and convincingly won all four of her junior 13 and 14 events over the racing weekend beating crews from four different clubs, charlotte is the new up and coming member of the ever-growing junior section of the club. Burton Regatta July 2006 The junior squad went to Burton Regatta and did the club proud. On the Saturday Patrick Brown won his J15 Men's single event against tough opposition in the form of a strong sculler from Royal Grammar School Worcester. This is Pat's first win representing Bridgnorth so a great achievement for him. Also racing on Saturday was Charlotte Jukes in her single and double scull, performing well in both but just missing out in her finals. On the Sunday it was her time and Charlotte won the J14 single, holding off a very good sculler from Trent Rowing Club in the final. The other finalist on Sunday was Andrew Graham in his J13 sculling event. Well done everyone! Ironbridge Regatta 23-24th June 2006 A good performance by all Bridgnorth entries with wins on both days of the regatta. Charlotte, Pat, Robert and Andrew did the Junior Squad proud, with Andrew winning his first ever race on Sunday, beating a sculler from Warrington RC. Daz and Dale had some close races in their S4 2x on both days. Well done to Mike Payne who won S2 1x on Saturday, taking him up to Senior 1 status for sculling, and to Dale, Daz, Simon and Will, coxed by Janet, who won S3 4+ on Sunday, beating Peterborough City RC, Minerva Bath RC and Bewdley RC. Finally, a special mention is due for the BRC caravan, which made its debut this weekend. Look out for it again at Stourport! Bridgnorth Walk 2006 Well done to all BRC members and supporters who completed the gruelling Bridgnorth Walk in aid of the British Heart Foundation. Reuben Mortimore came 3rd overall, proving again that BRC members are among the fittest people in the town! Pengwern Regatta Members of Bridgnorth rowing clubs junior squad performed well at Shrewsbury regatta. Racing over the 600-metre sprint course at Shrewsbury’s quarry park in the men’s junior 18 double scull event, Darrel Breakwell and Dale Bunning won their sprint event by defeating a very good Warwick crew. However, the main success of the day was Charlotte Jukes who also racing in the sprint regatta won her junior 13 category in her single scull beating crews from Burton, Warwick and Evesham rowing clubs. Full of confidence after this result Charlotte then went on to race up an age category in the women’s junior 14 single scull and proceeded to win this as well, beating crews from Trafford and Pengwern rowing clubs. The other successes saw Michael Payne racing on the Saturday 1000-metre course, winning the men’s senior 2 single scull final beating crews from Huntingdon, Birmingham and Trent rowing clubs. Other notable achievements were Patrick Brown gaining valuable experience on the Sunday and the men’s senior 3 coxed four crew who, after winning there first round against Leicester, then lost to the eventual winners of the event Guilford rowing club in a close race. The unlucky story of the weekend David Drinkwater who, after thinking he had won his men’s senior one final, was then promptly disqualified for bad steering! To see more photos from the weekend click here. Evesham Regatta Evesham regatta was held over the bank holiday weekend with a 1000m upstream race on the Saturday and a 500m downstream sprint event on the Sunday. Bridgnorth rowing club sent a mixture of junior and senior crews to compete in the event. On Saturday, the men’s senior 4 coxed four consisting of Will Grant, Simon Kett, Daz Breakwell and Dale Bunning and coxed by Janet Holland were successful in both of their heats to win in the final, beating crews from Clifton College and Llandaff. This win was a great start to their season and now places them in a higher status of racing for the rest of the summer. On Sunday, the club had a number of finalists including Charlotte Jukes in the junior 14 women’s single scull and Daz Breakwell and Dale Bunning in the junior 18 men’s double scull. The main success of the day was David Drinkwater who beat scullers from Kings School Worcester and Northampton to win the men’s senior one single sculls. HORR and Veteran's HORR 2006 The HORR and Vet's HORR were both exciting races, particularly when stroke fell off his seat in the final straight of the HORR! We came 170th/419 crews in the HORR and 24th/174 crews in the Vet's HORR. Great results, all things considered! Thanks to the 2 Hereford Rowing Club members for rowing in the composite crew for the Vet's race. Worcester Main Head 2006 After an early start the men's senior 2 and senior 3 eights had good rows down the course at Worcester, both coxed by Janet. The S2 8+, consisting of Reuben, Will, Rich, Daz, Wally, Rob, Mike and Tim finished 4th in their category with a time of 20:03:29, despite getting stuck behind another crew in front of the bridges. The S3 8+ consisting of Dale, Daz, Will, Simon, Reuben, Wally, Mike and Tim finished 5th, with a time of 20:02:52. Well done to everyone for coping with the cold and windy conditions! Stourport Winter Head 2006 We started our long distance race season last weekend with high drama when the men’s eight entered Stourport winter head. The original crew had to be changed at the last minute due to sickness. Then, on the day itself, the boat to be used was damaged on the way to the race! Luckily Stourport boat club loaned us a boat. The crew, consisting of T.Grimsdale, D.Drinkwater, M.Payne, R.Mortimore, P.Wallis, S.Kett, D.Breakwell, D.Bunning and coxed by J.Holland, managed to pull off a top result by finishing as the second fastest boat of the day over the 3250 metre course with a time of 12minutes and 22 seconds. The winning crew was Worcester rowing club which is home to the regions centre of rowing excellence so a fine result indeed. R.Mortimore was the fastest senior three single sculler in the event with a time of 15 minutes and 24 seconds. Another excellent result! National Indoor Rowing Championships 2005 The club was represented at the National Indoor Rowing Championships held at the NIA, Birmingham. Four members of the men’s squad competed and all completed the 2,000 metre distance in under seven minutes with men’s captain Reuben Mortimore having the fastest time for the club at six minutes 40 seconds. Evesham Head 2005 Daryl Breakwell and Dale Bunning continued their winning streak from the summer season in their double scull. They successfully beat crews from Bewdley and Evesham by a considerable margin to win the Junior 18 double sculls event. Daz and Dale also joined forces with Will Grant and Simon Kett to form a senior four coxed four, coxed by Paul Wallis. Will and Simon were competing in their first ever head race as they have only been members of the club for a year! The four did very well and were placed third in their event, only 22 seconds behind the winning crew. Longmynd Hike 2005 A first for BRC! An intrepid team of hikers set out from Church Stretton to complete the 50 mile overnight hike in 20 hours. Reuben, Mike, Dave, Derek and Simon all got round and Simon was outstanding in winning the Fastest Junior trophy. Stourport Regatta 2005 Another rainy regatta, but spirits remained high as Phil and Reuben won their singles events on Sunday. Bewdley Regatta 2005 We had a big entry for Bewdley Regatta and weren't too put off by the torrential downpours. Well done to the Vet C 4+, Dave in his S2 1x and the Mixed 8+ who had good wins against strong competition. A special thanks to York City RC for letting us borrow their cox for the Mixed 8+. Ironbridge Regatta 2005 A great performance by the WS3 4+ who won their event quite convincingly on Saturday, moving up to S2. Bad luck for the Novice Men who were up on the start but lost their fin in the shallows and Vicky did well to get down the course at all! Bridgnorth Regatta 2005 We had a successful Regatta this year with over 150 crews from all round the country. Will Grant and Simon Kett had their first race in the double, showing great promise of things to come. Mike, Charlotte and Reuben all won in their singles events. Our new pots went down a storm with the days winners and the club barbeque was well deserved after a hard days work by all! Henley Royal Regatta 2005 The Wyfold four of Reuben, Tim, Dave and Wally did us proud at Henley, qualifying easily and putting in a great performance against London Rowing Club. Here's to next year lads! Wallingford Regatta 2005 The Senior Men's and Women's boats put in some excellent performances at Wallingford Regatta. There was plenty of stiff competition at Eton Rowing Lake and both squads did extremely well in the windy conditions. New Pots for BRC Regatta 2005 Thanks to the Much Wenlock Pottery we are proud to present the new pots to be awarded to winners at our 2005 Regatta. This is the first year we have produced this new style of pots and we're sure they'll prove popular on the day. Boat Naming Ceremony 2004 We held the official Boat Naming Ceremony for our coxless four on Sunday. The boat has been named after Roger Payne who has contributed a wealth of time and experience to the Club, both as competitor and now as the Junior Squad's Coach.
